Teaching Qualification FAQs

The Level 3 Award in Education and Training (AET) is an introductory qualification that gives you the basics of teaching. To become a fully qualified teacher in further education, you would progress to the Level 5 Diploma in Teaching (FE and Skills), which leads to QTLS status.

The teaching qualifications are primarily designed for the further education and skills sector. To teach in primary or secondary schools, you typically need QTS (Qualified Teacher Status). However, our supporting teaching and learning qualifications are specifically designed for school-based teaching assistant roles.

For the Level 3 AET, no prior teaching experience is required -- it is designed for beginners. For Level 4 and Level 5 teaching qualifications, some teaching or training experience is recommended. Our admissions team can advise on the best starting point for your circumstances.

Yes, our Level 3 assessing qualifications (CAVA and the Award in Assessing Competence) are ideal for workplace trainers, NVQ assessors, and anyone who needs to formally assess learner competence in vocational settings.
