Functional Skills FAQs
Yes. Functional Skills Level 2 in Maths or English is officially recognised as equivalent to a GCSE grade C/4. It is accepted by universities (including through UCAS), employers, the NHS, the armed forces, and professional bodies. Ofqual regulates both GCSEs and Functional Skills qualifications to the same national standards framework.
With our fast-track option, motivated learners can complete a Level 2 Functional Skills course in as little as 4-6 weeks. Standard-pace learners typically take 8-12 weeks. Your tutor will assess your starting level and recommend a realistic study plan based on your existing skills and available study time.
Our Functional Skills courses are specifically designed for adult learners, and many of our students had difficult experiences with these subjects at school. The content focuses on practical, real-world application rather than abstract theory. Your dedicated tutor provides 1-to-1 support, works at your pace, and uses strategies tailored to adult learning. You won't be in a classroom of teenagers -- this is a completely different experience.
Absolutely. Many of our learners study Functional Skills Maths or English alongside a vocational qualification such as Health and Social Care or Accounting. This is especially common when the vocational course requires GCSE-equivalent Maths or English as an entry or completion requirement. We'll help you manage the combined workload.
